Juno vs OpenAI Dots

A dot gets its own computer in OpenAI's cloud. Juno uses the one on your desk, with your apps and your logins already on it.

OpenAI launched Dots on September 29, 2026. Each dot is an always-on agent running on GPT-6 Astra, with its own cloud computer and browser. You give it goals, it works in the background, and it brings finished work back to ChatGPT, Slack or Teams for approval. The first dot comes with ChatGPT Pro at $200 a month.

Juno is a different shape. It lives in your Mac's menu bar, listens when you hold a key, and does the task on your actual screen: your Finder, your browser, your calendar, your saved logins. You see every click as it happens, and Escape stops it.

A dot is a coworker you message. Juno is a pair of hands on your own computer.

Where OpenAI Dots is the better pick

  • Work that should keep going while you sleep. A dot never closes its laptop.
  • Teams. Specialist dots get their own identity and credentials, and ChatGPT Space puts people and dots in one workspace.
  • Breadth of integrations. OpenAI counts more than 4,000 apps through its plugin ecosystem.
  • Phones. You can message a dot from anywhere. Juno is macOS only.

Where Juno pulls ahead

  • Anything that needs the real machine: the file you have open, or the app you are already signed into.
  • Seeing the work. Juno acts on your screen, so there is nothing to review afterwards because you watched it.
  • Voice. Hold a key, say what you want, let go. There is no chat window to switch to.
  • Cost. Juno is free when you connect the Claude plan you already have. A founding lifetime seat is $49, less than one week of ChatGPT Pro.

Their computer or yours

Dots solve the trust problem by moving the work somewhere else. The agent gets a clean cloud machine, and anything it needs from your world arrives through a connector or an explicit grant to your laptop. That is a sensible design for an agent you cannot watch. Juno makes the opposite bet. The work happens on the machine you are sitting at, in the apps you already use, with the logins you already have. Nothing to connect, nothing to sync. And because the agent is on your screen, you can see what it is doing and stop it the moment it goes wrong. Dots are built for delegation. Juno is built for the thing in front of you, now.

Use the one that matches the task

If you want something to run overnight and report back in the morning, a dot is the right tool and Juno is not. If you want the thing on your screen done while you watch, with your own files and accounts, Juno is the right tool and a cloud agent cannot reach it. Plenty of people will end up with both.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Juno and OpenAI Dots?
Dots are always-on agents that run on OpenAI's cloud computers and report back through ChatGPT, Slack or Teams. Juno runs on your Mac and does tasks on your screen, with your apps and logins, while you watch. Dots are built for delegation. Juno is built for doing the task in front of you.
Can a dot use my Mac like Juno does?
OpenAI says you can grant a dot access to your laptop for deeper work. By default it works from its own cloud machine. Juno only ever works on your Mac, through macOS accessibility, and shows you every action.
Is Juno cheaper than Dots?
The first dot is included with ChatGPT Pro, which is $200 a month. Juno is free when you connect a Claude Pro or Max plan or your own API key, and founding lifetime seats start at $49.
Does Juno work when my Mac is asleep?
No. Juno works while your Mac is awake and you are around. If you need an agent that keeps going overnight, that is what Dots are for.
