Wispr Flow is the app that made people believe in dictation again. Hold a key, talk, and clean punctuated text lands wherever your cursor is. It handles more than a hundred languages, it strips the ums, and it is quick.

Juno does that part too. Same hold to talk, same cursor, and the transcription runs on your Mac through Whisper instead of going to a server. No account, no subscription, no upload.

The difference shows up on the next sentence. Say "reply to Dana and tell her the deck is ready" and Wispr Flow types that sentence. Juno opens Mail, finds Dana, and writes the reply.

Where Wispr Flow is the better pick

  • You move between a Mac, a PC and an iPhone and want one dictation history on all three. Juno is Mac only.
  • Your team needs shared dictionaries and snippets so everyone spells the product name the same way.
  • You want dictation and only dictation, with no permission dialog about controlling your computer.
  • Their cloud models are tuned hard for latency. If a couple of hundred milliseconds is the whole decision for you, try both and trust your own ears.
  • Their meeting notetaker records calls without a bot joining. Juno does not do meetings.

Where Juno pulls ahead

  • Your voice never leaves the machine. Dictation needs no account and no connection.
  • Nothing to cancel. The app is free and the source is on GitHub.
  • The same keypress can type your words or go and act on them. You pick per trigger.
  • Wake words route separately, so "transcribe" can start dictation while "Juno" starts a task.
  • It works on a plane, in a SCIF, and on the days the vendor's API is down.

The honest version

If all you ever want is text, Wispr Flow is a good app and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The reason to move is that a lot of what you dictate is not prose, it is an instruction. Send this to accounting. File these by date. Pull the numbers off that tab. Those are sentences you dictate today and then execute by hand afterward. Juno does both halves.

Questions people ask

Is Juno's dictation as fast as Wispr Flow's?
Wispr Flow runs on cloud models tuned for latency and they are quick. Juno transcribes on your Mac, so there is no network round trip, but the speed depends on which Whisper model you pick and what machine you are on. On Apple Silicon with the default model it keeps up with speech. Faster local models are what we are working on now. Both are free to try, so test them against your own voice.
Can I use Juno purely as a dictation app?
Yes. Set a push to talk trigger with dictation as its target and never grant the accessibility permission. At that point it is a local dictation app that cannot touch anything else.
Does Juno take screenshots the way Wispr Flow does for context?
No. Dictation sends nothing anywhere. Screenshots are only taken while a task you started is running, they go only to the model provider you chose, and they are not kept afterward.
What does Juno cost if it is free?
The app is free. The model is not. You either connect the Claude Pro or Max plan you already pay for, or you paste an API key and pay per task. Dictation is local, so it costs nothing at all.
Can I run both?
Yes, and some people do while they switch over. Give them different triggers so they do not both grab the same key.
